Dear samuelhanna93, in ATENA, the reinforcement bars get automatically connected to a few nearest nodes of the surrounding material. Therefore, there is no need for the volume mesh to coincide with the reinforcement bars. See the ATENA Engineering 2D or 3D Tutorial for an example.

Dear sir,

I am using ATENA V5.0.3 , i have a question about  modeling  the discrete steel reinforcement in the finite element models.

Is it necessary for the concrete and the reinforcement mesh to share the same nodes in ATENA Engineering 2D (for quadrilateral elements) and in ATENA  3D (for solid elements) ?
