Yes, that is possible. Please see ATENA Troubleshooting, 2.1.6 Is there an example how to change the structure during analysis to consider the construction process? and the there referred section 3.8.2.1 Construction cases of the ATENA 3D User's Manual.

Hi there,

We are currently modelling a prestressed reinforced concrete beam which we would like to strengthen in shear using carbon fiber reinforced polymers. At the moment, we are prestressing an FRP strengthened beam and applying load under displacement control until failure.

However, in reality, the presetressing is applied when there is no FRP applied to the beam. Only after the beam has been fully stressed is the FRP applied to the member. I wonder if it is possible to model this scenario using staged construction in ATENA 3D or Gid.

Ie:

Stage 1: Prestressing applied to beam inducing decompression moments and stressess.
Stage 2: Carbon fiber applied to the beam using birth elements or something similar.
Stage 3: Beam loaded until failure.

I would appreciate your comment.

Regards

Robin
