Topic: 3D Interface

Hi,

I am using axisymmetric modelling feature for my model. However because I am drawing 2D in GID it is not allowing to select 3D for my interfaces. Is that possible to solve this problem and change the Interface as 3D?

Re: 3D Interface

You can create the interface as contact surface instead of contact volume

Re: 3D Interface

Thanks for the response.
I am creating contact surface and with this contact it is not allowing to use Interface as 3D.
However my model is Axisymmetric that is why I want to use CC3D Surface.
Is it not possible?

Since your model is axisymmetric, ATENA may automatically restrict interface selection to 2D. If you need to use a CC3D Surface, consider the following:

1.   Verify ATENA's Axisymmetric Limitations – ATENA generally treats axisymmetric models as 2D, which might prevent direct 3D interface selection. Check if CC3D is supported in such cases.

2.    Workaround with 3D Geometry – One possible solution is to temporarily convert your model to full 3D, define the interface as CC3D, and then switch back to axisymmetric. However, this depends on ATENA’s handling of interface definitions.

3.    Modify Input Files – If ATENA allows manual editing of input files, you could try specifying a 3D interface manually. The solver might still recognize it even in axisymmetric mode.
